Social Inclusion
Residence

The social inclusion team includes what many prisons would call the Safer Custody and Equalities departments as well as going much further and working alongside the Residential team to make sure all members of our community have a voice, focus, support and an opportunity to embrace their individuality.

What we do:-

-
Arrange a calendar of celebration and action days
-
Run the listeners scheme.
-
Manage Equalities issues.
-
Support men finding things difficult
-
Liaise with KCC social care to ensure those with social care needs are provided for in Standford Hill and after release
-
Facilitate visits with organisations such as Care after Combat to support veterans in their resettlement needs.
-
We have a team of peer workers available to help and support men with a range of issues and needs

Social Inclusion staff and peer workers are available to the men during normal working hours and the listeners are available any time day and night 365 days a year.
The residential community at HMP Standford Hill consists of three residential buildings where our men live in single rooms and are supported by the Officers and Managers responsible for the community.

Our focus is providing a bright clean and decent living environment for our men that enables and encourages them to engage with their future resettlement into life outside of custodial settings. The HMP Standford Hill Rehabilitative Culture policy is the foundation upon which we help our men build for their futures.

A Wing/Sterling House

Part of this wing houses the induction unit where all men start their time at Standford Hill. They are taken through a comprehensive induction package including classes delivered by Officers, peer advisors and external agencies. They also sit a labour board where they discuss their education levels, work history and plans for the future. They are then given an appropriate education or work placement to best suit their needs. The rest of the unit is for the men to start their journey of resettlement and rehabilitation through to final release into the community

B Wing/Sunderland House

B Wing is much the same as A wing but without the induction unit. As on A Wing the men are supported through Personal Officers to fulfil their potential and complete their resettlement plans. B wing also houses the PERS team, although the men engaging with this service can live anywhere in Standford Hill. They can progress to higher education vocational training, and charity work in the community. Once men progress to paid community work they are eligible to apply to live on the Enhanced Progression Community as are the men on A Wing.
C Wing/Enhanced Progression Community

The Enhanced Progression Community is an environment where men can begin to live more independently. The men work almost exclusively in the wider community and are given the opportunity to be responsible for themselves as they will be expected to do on release. Work was recently completed on a self-cook kitchen and the men will be able to grow their own produce to cook as well as purchase ingredients.
