The Old Mill Village

The Old Mill Village is an area of prison land just outside of our formal boundary that we have elected to use to encourage further community engagement and commercial growth. Both of these strands are vital to our continued success and the ongoing involvement of our local community at the heart of Standford Hill.

Our first priority is to use the Village to introduce our men to the community and to showcase the skills and ethos that they possess; this is often the first and most important step on their journey to full reintegration into the community.

Our second objective is to reinvest any money made through the projects in the Village back into Standford Hill to enhance and widen the opportunities for training and employment that our men have, and also to make the process of reintegration as seamless as possible.

At present the Village has a café which serves the public, as well as our men; it is managed by a local charity and gives our men the opportunity to gain experience and qualifications in both front of house and catering.

Also situated within this area are: a recycling company which employs our men and gives them industry standard qualifications, the Emporium which is a retail outlet run and stocked by our men using recycled and upcycled materials, an Aeronautical Museum, a College facility catering for both members of the public and our men which offers formal qualifications in IT, Plumbing and Electrics and a local Bee Farm, who specialise in breading British Black Bees, which provides local honey and wax products for sale in our Emporium.

We are always looking for new opportunities to work with companies or individuals to increase the opportunities our men have and to build solid partnerships.
