The Working Out Scheme offers an opportunity to fully engage with our resettlement programme by looking for and gaining real work experience in the community. This project is designed to assist in achieving safe reintegration into the community and to reduce the risk of re-offending. It will give the best opportunities possible to succeed. We are here to offer a supportive but testing regime which allows prisoners to demonstrate that you are ready and safe to return to the community by fully participating in unpaid restorative community placements, external vocational and academic training and full-time paid employment in the community.

The Working Out Scheme, based within the Activities Department, offers an opportunity to fully engage with the resettlement programme.  This scheme is designed to assist the individuals in achieving safe reintegration into their resettlement area and reduce the risk of re-offending.

We work with several placements who regularly advertise their vacancies with us.  However, should the individuals already have an employment offer, they will have to let The Working Out Scheme know so that we can start the clearing process.  Alternatively, they may wish to seek their own training/employment opportunity which we will fully support.

The Working Out Scheme at Standford Hill utilise Release on Temporary Licence (RoTL) to allow individuals to progress into secure, sustainable, risk assessed employment prior to their release from custody.

In January 2024 the Working Out Scheme had the following number of men engaging:

Community Work -13

Paid Employment  -107

Training at Placement - 6

Education Placements - 4
