Substance Misuse
Drug Strategy
From an offender's arrival at Standford Hill the CGL team are ready to engage and help them overcome any issues they portray with Substance Misuse.
CGL meet every man on Admission. We give every man a talk about Harm Minimisation, Safety, Tolerance Levels, and make them aware of Red Flags when they meet their family, friends etc on ROTL. They are then given the chance to engage with CGL. This way, EVERY man is seen. We aim to review our individual client’s cases every 8 weeks.
Our staff are empathic; they care and thrive on seeing the change and positivity that removing substances from a person's life can bring. By engaging and letting prisoners surround themselves with positive and supportive people can show that there is an alternative
Every client we engage with has a personalised plan. We do not offer one size fits all treatment. The plan is talked through and mutually agreed, then reviewed at each 1-1.
We encourage different interventions, that provide a holistic approach. We run intensive Treatment and Short Programmes, musical interventions, Yoga, Art, Origami, Gym Sessions, AA, NA, Family visits, and Peer Led Recovery Focussed Groups.
We work with other agencies, in Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDT's, Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) Reviews Clinical Reviews, where we work with other agencies to provide best outcomes for the men that we work with.
We try constantly to provide positivity in a negative environment. Some that we work with have been in the system for years and are used to being ignored and dismissed. To talk with someone who wants to help, who listens and encourages is a new concept, and we embrace that.
Foundations of Growth
Is a short programme focussed on developing the skills, insight understanding of personal addiction and external support networks to maintain and sustain long-term abstinence. It continues to develop self-awareness and Self-acceptance and introduces the practice of mindfulness as a cognitive tool to build resilience and enhanced coping skills.
The team run a series of Small PODs aimed at the Service Users need. These are a lower intensity group-based workspace, and we cover a variety of differing subjects. These PODs are run in the form of a stand-alone session. We aim to deliver the correct subject to meet the relevant need.
Family Work
We offer Family Interventions to reconnect and maintain ties with family members. For those who are CGL clients, we explore the effects of addiction on families and relationship Challenges. We advocate whilst communicating with professionals (Social Care, Cafcass, Solicitors, Early Help filling out forms/ writing letters to significant others, applying to courts etc)
We provide a Family Day event. To help support your families as well as Special purpose visits – These are visits that must be approved by the Governor. A special purpose visit may be needed if families are struggling and need mediation or time together to build their relationship.
