Childrens book about Standford Hill

We are pleased to introduce a new resource that will soon be available at HMP Standford Hill: a specially designed children's book for the children of prisoners.

Written for children aged 5 to 10, the book gently explains what life is like at Standford Hill and helps support conversations between prisoners and their children. It has been created to help children better understand their parent's situation in a way that is reassuring, sensitive and age-appropriate.

The book will only be provided if requested by the prisoner. This is important because some children may not know that their parent is currently in custody, and we must ensure that information is shared carefully and appropriately.

To help children relate to the story, a range of versions has been produced. These include different ethnic backgrounds, as well as editions for sons, daughters and grandchildren.

We hope this resource will help families stay connected and support children in understanding their loved one's experiences. Attached is a copy of one of the versions of the children's book available. If you would like your own copy, this can be arranged through the PACT worker at Standford Hill.
